I wanted to start things off, so I'll start with what I'm pissed about right now and that's SMASH.
Here is my beef with them: long delayed release, messed up tape, quality control issues with their books -- some pages were upside-down for example, crappy glue-stick -- I have a feeling I'll have to re-adhere everything with my ATG the red/white clips stain the paper, there are red marks on the paper where I had the clip in my mini-smash book
Coming from a huge company like K&Co this is unacceptable. What do you think?

I wish I could share what I think, but I'm still waiting for the shipment to arrive! I was told mid-June, but still no update yet. Regarding the glue pen, do you think it doesn't work very well because the opening is so small and it doesn't apply much, or is the glue just bad? I was wondering how effective a narrow pen-style glue would be.

I gotta admit I didn't understand the whole Smash craze, but I think what happened was it blew up faster than they really bargained for. I've seen this with the game industry, things getting pushed out before they're ready, before they even WORK, because there's just no more time. Perhaps the company was putting heat on the people actually making the stuff and they half-assed the whole thing.

The problem with the glue stick is that is just that -- a glue stick! They make it look so easy in the video, just one swipe and voila, but in reality you have to cover the entire back of the paper for it to stick. I have a feeling i'll run out of that glue very quickly. So if you're SMASH-ing at home I suggest you use other adhesive. I can't say about the longevity of the glue because I just started using it, but I highly doubt it will last for a long time. I was so hoping it was liquid glue in that pen =/

I am another who isn't getting the whole Smash craze although I believe it was because I was "Smashing" way back when in high school. Back in those days my Smash books were gifted notebooks which I would fill with magazine cut outs, stickers, doodles, anything that I collected or found that tickled my fancy and of course my own journalling and poetry etc...
I agree with Aeryn in that I think they did not expect the sheer amount of interest that Smash got, obviously they believed that it was a marketable idea but I really think that they were unprepared for the hype. Putting out inferior product is a pretty crappy move but they would have made back the losses from that and people will continue to buy the products from the line buying into the whole trend.
Is it just me or do you think that Smash was intended for a younger audience like the teen-early twenties age groups? It could just be me but the products, packaging and advertising are very hip and on trend and I just get a more of a youth feel to the whole thing.

It is definitely for a younger audience. Even younger than me I'd think. I found the idea fun b/c I dont scrap every photo, ticket stub, memento, like some others do. I keep that crap in my wallet and this gave me a place to put it somewhere. I also use it as a journal-type book, so I like it. But if I knew it was such crap I'd buy a journal of my own and a liquid pen adhesive from Martha or something and call it a day.

Yeah, see I think that's the problem. For one, I'll be 28 next Friday, so I'm not young and hip. For two, I don't really remember myself ever doing something like that. I scrap my movie ticket stubs now in an annual album, but before that they just kind of float around in my scrap area. Before that I think they went in a box and that got thrown away. I regret it, but it never even entered my mind to glue them into an album. And any pictures I might have cut out of a magazine were for TV shows, so they went on my walls.
I guess I never did ANY of the traditional "girl" things, lol! I either had a journal to write my thoughts in, or I kept them to myself, not in a catch-all album. I'm wishing I did now, cos it'd be neat to read, but I can't see myself finding anything to SMASH on a regular basis.

LOL! I think it's just that I've never considered myself "hip". I'm perfectly happy being rooted in the "lame" and "dork" category. It means I can get away with more things and looking like an idiot in public. Just a good thing DH doesn't care about who he's seen with. Although I do get a "shhh" occasionally, lol! I AM a bit loud.

I thought I saw somewhere that Smash was being marketed as "a scrapbook for non-scrapbookers" -- which would explain why it doesn't appeal to me. I'm a scrapbooker. That doesn't explain why the SC sheep are so into it though.

I'm a scrapbooker but I like it. As for SC sheep, they like everything SC recommends. It's almsot ridiculous at times. "I dont know what it is but I'll buy so I can brag about it on the boards!" baaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The only thing i have bought is the stamp thing but i have not opened it yet. Hopefully it is not crappy. I would rather make my own art journal type thing than buy one of those journals.

My one complaint about the Smash book is I can't get my bloody hands on one! I ordered one in April and it still hasn't been delivered, I'm told it will be August before it arrives. Not impressed!

I saw the whole line this past weekend at Archivers...and all I bought was the tape. I hope it doesn't really suck, although I didn't shell out a ton of money for it. Nothing else appealed to me, even though I like the idea!
